Trust in God's Direction : Day 5 of the Waiting with God Giveaway
To celebrate the giveaway we're doing with the terrific people at Free Book Friday, each day this week I will be posting a devotional from Waiting with God to give you peek inside this inspiring devotional which was born from my own year of waiting with God.
The Lord said to
Moses, “Take the staff, and you and your brother Aaron gather the assembly
together. Speak to that rock before their eyes and it will pour out its water.
You will bring water out of the rock for the community so they and their
livestock can drink.”
So Moses took the
staff from the Lord’s presence, just as He commanded him. He and Aaron gathered
the assembly together in front of the rock and Moses said to them, “Listen, you
rebels, must we bring you water out of this rock?” Then Moses raised his arm
and struck the rock twice with his staff. Water gushed out, and the community
and their livestock drank.
But the Lord said
to Moses and Aaron, “Because you did not trust in Me enough to honor Me as holy
in the sight of the Israelites, you will not bring this community into the land
I have given them.”
~Num: 20:8-12
Day 5
Trust In God’s Direction
When I read the summary at the start of today’s reading I thought,
why is God being so harsh? Who cares whether Moses spoke to the rock or struck
it? Why should he be denied seeing the Promised Land?
Then I spoke with my 86-year-old mother and she pointed out that
it was a matter of not only obedience, but trust, that God was asking of Moses,
and asking of us.
In fact, as God plainly says, “Because you did not trust in Me
enough to honor Me...” And that’s the bottom line. Trust is essential to
obedience. You can’t have one without the other.
It is impossible to have faith in God if you don’t also trust in
God’s words and the promises that He makes throughout the Bible. And that’s the
greatest challenge we have right now, we need to learn to trust in God.
It’s easy to read the Bible and agree with the lessons, especially
when they don’t pertain to us.
But when we take up the challenge of applying God’s Word to our
lives, it can stop us in our tracks. Yet, as we read in today’s verses, at
times God may withhold an answer to
prayer until we relinquish control of the outcome and put our complete trust in
Him.
Are you willing to trust God with the outcome of your prayers?
If not, what’s holding you back?
Today, talk to God and share your doubts and fears. And see what
He says.
