The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Mary holds a special place in my heart...so I was especially pleased when I arrived at Friday morning Mass to find that today is a celebration of her Assumption into Heaven.

I've included two of the Bible readings from today's Mass because they are especially beautiful.

Reading 1

RV 11:19A; 12:1-6A, 10AB

God’s temple in heaven was opened,
and the ark of his covenant could be seen in the temple.

A great sign appeared in the sky,

a woman clothed with the sun, with
the moon under her feet,and on her
head a crown of twelve stars.

She was with child and wailed aloud in pain as she labored to give birth.
Then another sign appeared in the sky;
it was a huge red dragon, with seven heads and ten horns,
and on its heads were seven diadems.
Its tail swept away a third of the stars in the sky
and hurled them down to the earth.
Then the dragon stood before the woman about to give birth,
to devour her child when she gave birth.

She gave birth to a son, a male child,
destined to rule all the nations with an iron rod.
Her child was caught up to God and his throne.

The woman herself fled into the desert
where she had a place prepared by God.

Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say:
“Now have salvation and power come,
and the Kingdom of our God
and the authority of his Anointed One.”

Responsorial Psalm PS 45:10, 11, 12, 16

R. (10bc) The queen stands at your right hand, arrayed in gold.
The queen takes her place at your right hand in gold of Ophir.
R. The queen stands at your right hand, arrayed in gold.
Hear, O daughter, and see; turn your ear,
forget your people and your father’s house.
R. The queen stands at your right hand, arrayed in gold.
So shall the king desire your beauty;
for he is your lord.
The queen stands at your right hand, arrayed in gold.
They are borne in with gladness and joy;
they enter the palace of the king.
R. The queen stands at your right hand, arrayed in gold.

Have a great weekend!

Let us consider few teachings that are contrary to Biblical doctrines.

Man-Made Teachings about the Virgin Mary.

28. Mary has authority over angels and the blessed in heaven. As a reward for her great humility, God gave her the power and mission of assigning to saints the thrones made vacant by the apostate angels who fell away through pride.

Such is the will of almighty God who exalts the humble, that the power of heaven, earth and hell, willingly or unwillingly, must obey the commands of the humble Virgin Mary. For God has made her queen of heaven and earth, leader of his armies, keeper of his treasures, dispenser of his graces, worker of his wonders, restorer of the human race, mediatrix on behalf of men, destroyer of his enemies, and faithful associate in his great works and triumphs.[Ref. http://www.ewtn.com/library/Montfort/TRUEDEVO.HTM#Part l:Ch.1] [Or Google search-Treatise on True Devotion to Blessed Virgin-St. Louis de Mont ford]

1. 1 Peter 3:18-22 For Christ.....22 who has gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God, angels and authorities and powers having been made subject to Him.(NKJV)

Jesus has authority over angels. The Virgin Mary has no authority.

2. 1 Timothy 2:5 For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Jesus Christ, (NKJV)

The Virgin Mary is not a mediatrix between men and God. Jesus is the one and only Mediator.

3. John 3:35 "The Father loves the Son, and has given all things into His hands. (NKJV)

The Father did not put things into the hands of Mary. All things are in the hands of Jesus.

4. Matthew 28:18 The Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. (NKJV)

The Virgin Mary has not been given authority of any kind. Jesus is the authority.

5. Revelation 17:14 "These will make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them, for He is Lord of lords and King of kings; and those who are with Him are called, chosen, and faithful." (NKJV)

Mary is not the queen of heaven and earth. Jesus is the King of kings. There is no queen.

You can believe man-made traditions or you can believe the Holy Bible. You cannot believe both.
